natural soapEarthceuticals® develops and markets All natural personal care products for every member of your family including a complete line of pet products. Extensive research has been put into the development of all Earthceuticals products. We take every care to ensure that every ingredient that goes into our products is completely all natural. This means there is no synthetic preservative, colorants, or additives of any kind. Why do we go the "extra mile" to develop products that are not just labeled as natural, organic or earth friendly... but are indeed truly natural... meaning that they contain absolutely no artificial chemical ingredients? Your skin layers serve a special purpose. Not only is the skin the largest organ in the body, more importantly... it's where your inner body interacts with the outside world. Your skin can also be the largest delivery system for outside substances to enter the body. Your skin effectively transports substances through the skin to the bloodstream, so effectively in fact that pharmaceutical makers use skin patches to deliver a number of drugs such as nicotine, nitroglycerin and birth control drugs... all right through the skin and into the bloodstream. This is why we will not manufacture any personal care product, which cannot be manufactured using 100%, all natural ingredients. Most personal care products being marketed at this time as all natural, in fact contain undesirable and artificial ingredients. Yes, some of them have actually tried to make their products somewhat more natural than their regular brands, but they are not genuinely all natural. Take for example a few of the most common mass marketed soaps, labeled as all natural, pure, and naturally moisturizing as an example. We won't list the product names here, but instead some of the ingredients in just their soap bars. Tetrasodium EDTA, 2,6 d-t butyl-p-cresol, sodium stearate, trisodium etidronate, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, cocoaamidopropylbetaine, sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate, lauric acid, sodium cocoglyceryl ether sulfonate and the list goes on. (Please see our Comparison Chart of Soaps in our News Section.) We have an in house doctor who has considerable training in chemistry, organic chemistry and environmental chemistry, and it goes without saying these are in no way natural ingredients although the bars are sold as natural and or pure. In fact, these bars are not technically soaps, although they are marketed as such. They would be more appropriately labeled as detergents. These are principally chemical surfactants, which in our opinion would be better suited to wash your car or your deck than to apply to your skin.

How Do I Know If A Product Is Really Natural? Print

natural productThere is a reason why it is so difficult to make correct choices when selecting synthetic and chemical free care products. The consumer is targeted by the commercial companies that want your revenue, but don't want to commit to providing truly healthy and synthetic free products.

Many of these companies have created special divisions of advertising professionals to specifically deal with the publics increasing awareness of product ingredients. They realize that they need to convince us that what they are selling is natural. They try to do this with clever wording, packaging designs and tricky product ingredients labeling. For example they will boldly indicate a natural ingredient such as Lavender essential oil on the front of a bottle of body lotion, but then in small print on the back list as vaguely as possible the synthetic chemical ingredients that are still the base make up of that product.

These unethical and deceptive advertising practices are commonly used to trick consumers into thinking they are using healthy all natural products. They commonly suggest that a product is natural by labeling the product as being scented with Honeysuckle or Mango etc. The following are just a few of many scents that cannot be distilled naturally and are always synthetic. Freesia, Strawberry, Lilac, Begonia, Apple, Apricot, Blueberry, Honeydew, Cranberry, Melon, Cucumber, Mango, Gardenia, Lily Hyacinth, Honeysuckle, Peach, Pear berry, Plumeria, violet, watermelon, raspberry, Coconut, Banana Nut Bread Cookie Dough and the list goes on and on.

Almost all commercial products today contain a whole array of chemical ingredients. These ingredients are used to chemically influence everything such as color, texture, thickness, scent, lathering ability and shelf life. This is just the beginning even a single chemical on the ingredient label can be made up of many additional chemicals to create the one.

We know that it may seem impossible to avoid the barrage of chemicals in our everyday products. But armed with a some basic knowledge of the most worrisome ingredients and being aware of the hype can help you make informed and intelligent decisions for you and your family. Earthceuticals® will continue to research and seek out the truth about issues that impact our personal health and the environmental health of this great planet we all share. What's In Your Personal Care Products? Print
Written by Paula Elder

natural skinHave you ever counted how many personal care products you use in a typical day? For most people it's somewhere around ten different products.  These include shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, hair conditioner, lip balm, sunscreen, and body lotion to name just a portion of them. Added up these products contain an average of 126 unique chemical ingredients. And what about children's personal care products? On any given day you might rub, spray or pour on your children some combination of sun screen, diaper cream, shampoo, lotion, and maybe even insect repellent onto their skin. Most people use these products daily without a second thought to the long list of ingredients listed on the back of the package. They just assume that the government surely must be policing the safety of these ingredients. But, if you assumed this you would be wrong. The government does not require health studies, or pre-market testing for personal care products before they can be sold. Here is a direct quote from the FDA website concerning this statement: “Neither cosmetic products nor cosmetic ingredients, other than color additives, need to be reviewed or approved by FDA before they are sold to the public. FDA cannot require companies to do safety testing of their cosmetics before marketing.”
